Terms of use

Version 2026-10-24

1. The service

Open Live Timing is a live timing platform built first for the developers of timing systems: a timing system pushes its data through the open API (REST and real time) and gets a complete live timing for its customers without building one. Organisers and circuits can also feed a page from an existing live timing source that they connect themselves; sections 2 and 3 apply to that case. Open Live Timing does not produce the timing data of these sources and does not check, on its own, who is entitled to redistribute them.

2. Connecting an existing live timing source

Whoever connects an existing source to a page confirms, each time a source is attached:

I confirm that I am, or have the authorization of, a party entitled to distribute the live timing data from this URL: the event organiser, the circuit, the series or championship, or the timing service provider. I have checked the source's terms of service or licence, and I will not use Open Live Timing to circumvent any access restriction (password, token, paywall or blocking). I will remove this live timing, or let Open Live Timing suspend it, as soon as a rights holder objects. I am solely responsible for this use and will indemnify Open Live Timing against any claim arising from it. Drivers' personal data shown on this page must be handled in line with applicable data protection law.

The authorization can come from any party entitled to distribute the data: the event organiser, the circuit, the series or championship, or the timing service provider. Open Live Timing keeps a record of each confirmation (account, date, version of this text and source) to be able to show who connected a source.

3. Forbidden uses

  • Connecting a source you are not authorized to redistribute, or that the source's terms forbid redistributing.
  • Circumventing an access restriction of a source: password, token, paywall, rate limit or blocking.
  • Presenting a page as official or endorsed by an organiser, a circuit or a timing provider without its agreement.
  • Using a page to harass or expose drivers, or to publish data a driver has asked to remove.

4. Removal on request

Organisers, circuits, series, timing providers and drivers who object to a live timing page can write to info@openlivetiming.com with the address of the page. Open Live Timing may suspend or delete a page, its source and its archived sessions without notice when a rights holder objects or when these terms are not respected.

5. Drivers' personal data

Driver names, numbers and lap times are personal data. A driver can ask, at the same address, to have their name hidden or removed from a page and its results. The creator of a page connected to a source is responsible for having the right to publish these data, in particular for drivers who are minors.

6. Responsibility

The creator of a page is solely responsible for the data it shows and for the source it connects, and indemnifies Open Live Timing against any claim arising from them. The service is provided as is, without guarantee of availability or accuracy of the timing data.

7. Changes

These terms may change. The version accepted when a source is connected is recorded with the confirmation; a new source attached later is confirmed under the version in force at that time.
